Stereo imager vs phase repair

Stereo imagers widen the picture. They can also wreck mono. PHIXER checks and fixes destructive L/R phase before delivery so width tools do not hollow the low end on phones, clubs, and livestreams.

Different jobs. Imagers push energy into the sides (M/S width, Haas, decorrelation). PHIXER is free stereo phase-repair (VST3/CLAP/AU · Win/Mac/Linux): continuous, frequency-aware phase rotation so more of the low end survives mono. Widen after the fold holds, not instead of fixing phase.

Why imagers wreck mono

Practical order before delivery

  1. True L+R mono sum on the suspect bus (phones, club, livestream check).
  2. Polarity / timing hygiene. Flip Ø or nudge a few samples if that is the real issue.
  3. If the stereo bed must stay stereo and one band still cancels, insert PHIXER. A/B mono before and after.
  4. Only then add imaging for ear-candy. Re-check mono after every width move.
  5. If a mono-safe center print is enough, print mono and skip width toys.
